Full-stack Next.js development with exceptional design control

Best for: Developers, designers and technical teams that want high-fidelity full-stack Next.js apps, professional Git workflows and direct control over their Vercel-based stack.

v0 by Vercel is a full-stack AI web-development environment built around Next.js, GitHub and Vercel. It generates interfaces and server-side application code, including server actions, API routes and React Server Components, and connects databases, storage, AI and payment providers.

Its workflow includes a full editor, real Node.js sandbox, terminal, browser testing, repository imports, branches, commits, pull requests, a Platform API, SDK and MCP server. The provider-based architecture is powerful but requires more technical setup and operational ownership than an integrated business-app backend.

Our Take

v0 is now a full-stack web development environment, not only a UI generator. It still leads with high-fidelity interface work, Next.js, Tailwind and shadcn/ui, but its current product also generates server actions, API routes and React Server Components, connects databases and storage, runs code in a real Node.js sandbox and deploys production applications through Vercel.

Its workflow is the most developer-shaped of the core three. v0 can import an existing GitHub repository, create branches and commits, work through pull requests, run terminal commands and browser tests, and use a Platform API, SDK and MCP server. Backend capability comes from application code plus Vercel and external providers such as Supabase, Neon, Upstash and Blob. That is a valid full-stack architecture; it simply asks the user to understand and operate more moving pieces than Base44's integrated backend or Lovable Cloud.

The honest trade-off is therefore skill and infrastructure responsibility, not missing full-stack capability. A non-technical owner can generate a substantial app, but auth, permissions, environment variables, provider configuration and production debugging are less hidden. Usage-based pricing can also be less predictable during heavy work, and no first-party native iOS/Android packaging path for the generated app was identified. v0 is strongest when design control and a professional Next.js/Git workflow are advantages rather than extra complexity.

What building on it feels like

v0 feels like working inside a modern web-development workspace with an AI engineer operating the tools. You can begin with a prompt, screenshot, Figma frame or existing repository, then inspect the files, terminal, preview, tests and Git history. The platform can build the backend code, but you still choose and configure the services that code depends on. Non-technical users get less of a concierge experience; developers and design-led teams get unusually direct control.

Best For / Not For

Best For

Developers, designers and technical teams that want high-fidelity full-stack Next.js apps, professional Git workflows and direct control over their Vercel-based stack.

Not For

Non-technical owners who want one integrated backend with minimal infrastructure decisions, or projects that require first-party native mobile packaging.

Bottom Line

The strongest full-stack choice for teams that want exceptional design control inside a Next.js, GitHub and Vercel workflow. It can build complete web apps, but its provider-based infrastructure makes it more technical to operate. Free tier; Plus is $30/user/month.
