Both v0 and Bolt can build and publish full-stack apps, so the old “screens versus projects” comparison is no longer useful. Choose v0 when your workflow centers on Next.js, Vercel, an existing GitHub repository, or a formal Figma/design-system handoff. Choose Bolt when you want broader JavaScript-framework freedom and a browser workspace whose Bolt Cloud can supply the database, authentication, file storage, server functions, and hosting in one place. v0 generates backend endpoints and server actions and connects to provider services such as Supabase, Neon, Upstash, and Vercel Blob; Bolt can provision its own database or use Supabase. The practical difference is provider-based Vercel architecture versus a more bundled Bolt Cloud path—not frontend versus full stack.
The free plans are real but measured differently. v0 Free gives new users $5 in one-time credits, seven messages per day, Vercel deployment, Design Mode, and GitHub sync; Plus is $30/user/month with $30 in monthly credits plus $2 in free daily credits on login. Bolt Free includes 1M monthly tokens (with a 300K daily limit), hosting, up to 333,000 web requests, unlimited databases, and Bolt branding; Pro starts at $25/month with 10M tokens, rollover, a custom domain, and higher hosting limits. Credits and tokens are not directly comparable, and larger projects use more context. v0 may add Vercel or provider costs; Bolt can exceed included hosting or database limits. If you want fewer architecture choices than either presents, Base44 or Lovable may be easier to operate.
