Lovable vs Cursor

Our verdict

Choose Lovable if you want prompts to produce a hosted web app with the backend handled; choose Cursor if you are a developer who wants AI working directly inside a codebase. Lovable ($25/month) now includes Lovable Cloud—SQL database, authentication, storage, functions and jobs—with Supabase as an optional alternative, plus visual editing and managed publishing. Cursor (from $20/month) gives developers codebase-aware agents and editing tools, but the framework, infrastructure, deployment and production decisions remain with the developer or team.

You can also use them together. Lovable documents two-way GitHub and GitLab sync, local development and external deployment, so a developer can open the synced repository in Cursor while the app continues using Lovable Cloud or Supabase. That is a real handoff path, not an automatic escape from every managed service: moving the code is straightforward, while replacing Lovable Cloud services and migrating data is a separate technical project.

Choose Lovable if

  • You want a complete web product without assembling infrastructure yourself
  • You want Lovable Cloud built in or Supabase as an optional backend
  • You value visual editing, managed publishing and a developer handoff path
  • You want to launch first and expose more of the code workflow as the team grows

Choose Cursor if

  • You can review, test and debug AI-generated code
  • You are working in an existing repository, including one synced from Lovable
  • You want codebase-aware agents and direct control over the full stack
  • Your team already owns—or wants to choose—deployment and operations

Criterion-by-Criterion Breakdown

Backend & Database

Lovable8/10

Lovable Cloud provides a managed SQL database, authentication, storage, Edge Functions, jobs and logs, while Supabase remains an alternative. New Cloud projects lack separate Test and Live environments, limiting isolated release workflows.

Cursor8/10

Cursor can implement and operate backends through repository edits, terminal tools and connected services without imposing one managed stack. That flexibility comes with responsibility for architecture, credentials and infrastructure.

Code Export

Lovable9/10

Lovable supports two-way Git sync, direct code download on paid plans, local development and deployment outside Lovable. A project syncs one active branch at a time, and importing an existing GitHub repository into Lovable is not supported.

Cursor10/10

Cursor edits the user's own local or cloud-cloned repository directly, so the project remains standard source code under the user's version-control and infrastructure choices.

Community & Support

Lovable9/10

Lovable's official community reports more than 160,000 Discord members, recurring live sessions, global events and recognized Champions. Formal product support remains separate from peer help.

Cursor8/10

Cursor has extensive documentation and an active public forum centered on developer workflows. It is a strong technical support ecosystem, but less accessible to someone who does not work with code and repositories.

Connections

Lovable9/10

App, user and chat connectors cover runtime actions and build context; Lovable also supports public or private APIs, custom MCP servers, payments, monitoring and messaging integrations. Connector type, authentication and plan requirements vary.

Cursor9/10

Cursor supports marketplace and custom MCP servers over local or remote transports, connecting Agent to databases, APIs and services such as GitHub, Linear and Notion. Capabilities depend on the installed server and its permissions.

Data Security

Lovable7/10

Lovable documents SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001-certified infrastructure, managed secrets and automated security checks before publishing. Generated-app access rules and data policies still require review; a passing scan is not a substitute for testing authorization behavior.

Cursor9/10

Cursor documents SOC 2 Type II, Privacy Mode that prevents training on code, encrypted isolated Cloud Agent VMs and regular penetration testing. Cloud Agents necessarily store encrypted working data, so retention and network settings still matter.

Deployment

Lovable8/10

Lovable provides managed publishing, previews, automatic SSL, global delivery and custom domains on paid plans. Git-synced applications can also move to external or self-managed hosting, with the owner taking over operations.

Cursor6/10

Cursor can run deployment commands and connect to hosting tools through the terminal or MCP, but application hosting is not bundled with the editor subscription. The user remains responsible for the provider and release configuration.

Ease of Use

Lovable8/10

Prompt-led building and Lovable Cloud let a user start with database, authentication, storage and hosting without opening a separate infrastructure account. Backend choice, security rules and production operations still introduce decisions that less technical users must understand.

Cursor4/10

Cursor works around an existing codebase through files, diffs, terminal commands and repository workflows. Natural-language agents reduce typing, but users still need enough development knowledge to judge and operate the result.

Pricing Value

Lovable7/10

Free use is capped, while Pro starts at $25/month with a monthly credit allowance and daily credits. The entry price is competitive, but iterative builds can make credit consumption a meaningful part of the cost.

Cursor7/10

Individual Pro remains $20/month and includes extended Agent usage, frontier models, MCPs and Cloud Agents. Model choice affects how quickly included usage is consumed.

Speed to MVP

Lovable9/10

Lovable can generate and deploy a full-stack web app with interface, database, authentication, storage and Edge Functions through Lovable Cloud, or use Supabase instead. Complex logic and release testing can still require additional iteration.

Cursor6/10

Agent can search a repository, edit files and run commands autonomously, and Cloud Agents can work in parallel. Unlike an integrated app builder, the user still chooses and assembles the application stack.

UI Quality

Lovable9/10

Design guidance can generate multiple visual directions and lets builders steer typography, color, layout and section variations before and after the first build. That design-first workflow remains a major strength.

Cursor6/10

Cursor can implement any interface the repository and developer specify, but it does not provide a default visual app-builder workflow or a built-in design system. UI quality therefore depends primarily on the project's design inputs and code.
